“Avengers: Age of Ultron” has found its Ultron. James Spader (“Lincoln,” “The Office”) will play the role of the title villain, facing off against the Who’s Who of comic book superheroes that assembled in the first film.
The news broke on Marvel’s own website Thursday. Spader, an Emmy award winner for his work in television, will be directed by Joss Whedon, who helmed the first “Avengers” film.
As an evil robot-type who has taken on the Avengers en masse multiple times, Ultron is one of the the most legendary villains in the Marvel universe.
Sequel details were unveiled at Comic-Con, where Whedon was on hand to reveal that Ultron would figure in the storyline. The movie is set for a May 1, 2015 release.
