2011 Satellite Awards: 'Drive' Wins Big, 'Descendants' Gets Top PrizeThe International Press Academy has announced the winners of the 16th annual Satellite Awards. During an event at Beverly Hills hotel on Sunday night, December 19, it was revealed that “Drive” became the biggest winner, while “The Descendants” took home the top prize at the awards.
“Drive” collected four kudos in total. They included prizes of Best Actor in Motion Picture for its leading star Ryan Gosling, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Albert Brooks, Best Director for its helmer Nicolas Winding Refn and Best Sound (Editing and Mixing).
“The Descendants”, meanwhile, went home with less number of trophies, but nailed its most coveted one, Best Motion Picture. Aside from winning the award, the George Clooney-starring dramedy bagged another win for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Viola Davis won Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in “The Help“, and Jessica Chastain took home Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her part in “The Tree of Life“. Other winners included “War Horse” (Cinematography), “Hugo” (Visual Effects) and “Water for Elephants” (Costume Design).
The Artist“, which usually won multiple gongs at various movie awards, only managed to secure a win in Best Art Direction & Production Design category, and “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn” was honored with Best Motion Picture for Animated or Mixed Media.
