Gaining a decent amount of buzz due to the drastically different role for Robert Pattinson, it seems the actor will be starting off a bold new career post-Twilight with director David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis. With the trailer tossed around the internet earlier this year, the premiere of the film has just mere hours in Canada while The U.K. only has one week until theaters begin to open the film. However, a U.S. release has always been uncertain. Now after all of the positive reception, it seems Cosmopolis is headed to the United States for a release later this summer.

Indiewire reports that Entertainment One Films has decided to set a release for Cosmopolis on August 17th in New York and Los Angeles only. The film will then shift to other markets in the weeks following, with those markets set to be announced later in the year.

Cosmopolis is based on the novel by Don DeLillo, and follows newly married billionaire Eric Packer (Pattinson) as he cheats on his wife, is pursued by a stalker (Paul Giamatti), gets attacked by a protester and gradually loses his entire fortune over the course of a single day.  The cast also includes Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Mathieu Amalric, Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, and Samantha Morton.

When it screened at Cannes a few weeks ago, critics met the film with mixed reviews. Many pointed out that the supporting cast alongside Pattinson aren’t in the film too long, leaving you to only bask in Pattinson’s performance, while feel the slow pace doesn’t exactly pay off by the end of the film. Others have called it a great satire on the economy, sex, and other cultural issues, some drawing comparisons to the Occupy movement as well.

I guess fans will make the decision upon very limited release in just a couple months. Until then, here’s to hoping that eOne might look into a possible On Demand outlet before hand so other markets can see it the same week.
