MARVEL NEWS: Stellan Skarsgard Returning for ‘Thor 2′, Reveals Production Start, and More!

It looks like Marvel news wants to close out the week strong, and after the reveal of Guardians of the Galaxy among other projects yesterday, we have a ton of news to catch up on. Here’s a run down of what’s waiting for you below:

– Stellan Skarsgard confirms he’s returning to Thor 2, and reveals when the sequel will start production.
– Captain America 2 will share a familiar filming spot with Iron Man 3.
– Guardians of The Galaxy has been confirmed by multiple more publications.
– Marvel and Disney are said to be working on a third 2014 release in the form of an animated adventure.
– Marvel has officially released the trailer and details for The Avengers‘ Blu-Ray and DVD release.

– First up, Stellan Skarsgard has confirmed to Hey U Guys that he will be returning for his third Marvel movie as Dr. Erik Selvig in Thor 2. Skarsgard’s screentime is unclear, given that he played a supporting role in the first film and that he also will have another film to balance with the new Lars Von Trier film. Skarsgard joins a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Mads Mikkelsen, Jaimie Alexander, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, and Zachary Levi. Furthermore with Skarsgard’s inclusion, it’s likely that there may be a spot for Kat Denning’s returning comedic relief in Darcy as well.

In another interesting bit, Skarsgard revealed that the sequel will begin to shoot in August, giving an official production start to the film that has only previously been revealed as starting sometime this summer. Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) will be stepping behind the camera for a November 8th, 2013 release.

– Meanwhile on another sequel front, North Carolina is looking into extending a tax break for film productions, as it expires on January 1st, 2014. Representative Danny McComas believes that extending the break will help out big budget films such as Marvel’s future productions, and it’s said that the next film that will swoop into Wilmington, North Carolina will be Captain America 2. No word yet on when the film will begin shooting, but it’s schedule to begin rolling either at the end of this year or at the start of 2013.

– In a brief update to our story yesterday regarding Guardians of the Galaxy set to be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con by Marvel, both Variety and THR have also consulted sources who confirm that Marvel is prepping an announcement for Comic-Con and will reveal the film at the presentation. Latino Review originally reported on Guardians of the Galaxy takiing the May 16th, 2014 spot, and now that multiple sources have confirmed the same claim, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the talk becomes a reality.

– There was talk in the past few months that Marvel and Disney could be working together to bring an animated Marvel feature together. Now, The Grid and Blue Sky Disney have reports stating that the two are teaming up for another 2014. From the 90s catalog of Marvel comics, it’s said that Disney and Marvel are brining Big Hero 6 to the big screen.

Said to be directed by Don Hall, the project is not “fully green lit” but has been approved by Jon Lasseter and is already story boarded. There has yet to be a script, with no writers yet assigned, but the story deals with a group of superheroes formed by the Japanese government in 1998 and features a diverse group of superheroes. It’s said to hit around Thanksgiving 2014, and there’s no word whether it will be CGI animation or traditional 2D style.
