no one in their right mind would even think about not recasting Jessica Lange, ever more so after the golden globe she received for playing “mother of the year” on his own show. so this is the only certainty: Miss Lange will be in season two.
recently Ryan Murphy has let out a few more details though.. the most important one gives us a hint at the possible cast: no Harmons will be in season two, so that’s it for young promise Taissa Farmiga who, i’m sure, will have no problem finding other gigs. but then again, since it’s supposed to be all new characters..
it’s a ripe time for speculations gents!
actually the first you can catch on the net regards Evan Peters’ fate: on one hand you just can’t let go of such an actor, not everyone plays psychos that well. on the other hand (which really is the same, having Peters still on the show, assuming), is that he could very well play the teen version of his own son as hinted by the obviously blonde baby and the smart shot of said baby in the rocking chair, just like daddy did in the first episode.
but then again (again) Murphy said no character would be the same.
one point which seems plausible is the poster, given that Murphy hinted season two will be located in some kind of institution
below are a few source articles:

Ever since Ryan Murphy revealed that he was trying to bring back some original castmembers for American Horror Story‘s second season, we’ve been anxiously demanding waiting patiently for news on who will be popping up next year. Finally, we have something!
Murphy confirmed last night to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that a fan favorite will be returning. So who’s coming back?
The one, the only…Jessica Lange!
Cohen asked the AHS and Glee creator: “You are recasting American Horror Story for next season. Will Jessica Lange make an appearance?” Surprisingly, Murphy confirmed the speculation with a simple “yes.”
It’s not the most surprising announcement seeing as Lange had been “thinking about” returning to AHS for some time now. But still, the Golden Globe and SAG Award winner will be making an appearance in season two, and that’s all that matters to us right now. The only question remaining is: will she reprise her role Constance Langdon in season two or, as Murphy said previously, return as a different character?
AHS fans should also squash any hope that Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott or Taissa Farmiga would return, because Murphy also stated: “I’m in negotiations with four of the people who were on last year’s show, and none of them were the Harmons.” So Evan Peters could return. But more importantly…Zachary Quinto?!
Murphy continued dropping AHS scoop by revealing that season two will take place “somewhere on the East Coast and it’s going to be a horror institution.” Mental hospital? Perhaps.
So many questions! Time to start speculating!

American Horror Story Season 2 Spoilers: Jessica Lange Is Back, Taissa Farmiga Out Too
Posted by Cristina Isabel on February 9th, 2012
Ryan Murphy revealed some scoop on American Horror Story‘s second season. First, Murphy revealed that Golden Globe and SAG Award winner Jessica Lange will make an appearance during AHS season 2. Then, Murphy teased a few more details…
-
AHS season 2 will take place on the East Coast and will involve a “horror institution.”
-
Murphy is in talks with four of the previous AHS castmembers but none of them were the Harmons—not surprising since the entire family perished by the end of season 1. By our deduction, that means potential returnees could include Lange, Denis O’Hare, Evan Peters, and Frances Conroy.
