savages: oliver stone’s upcoming messy-smoky-sweaty film from the looks of this trailer

Oliver Stone’s return in the upcoming crime thriller Savages has been that’s recently been gaining some buzz. With an impressive cast, the director’s return to the genre is one that’s certain to gain some attention. Now, the first trailer for the film has finally been released, and with a very styilized feel, it seems like Stone is back at impressing his audience.

The film can go really either one of two ways: it can be a fantastic fun thriller for the summer, or it can be a misfire that will have people kicking themselves by the end of it. By the way of the trailer, Savages looks damn good. The idea of Salma Hayek playing the central villain of the picture, when it could have easily been Benicio del Toro the entire time, is something that feels incredibly refreshing as it’s two women essentially at the core of this crime picture.

Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson add an Army of Two feel to the entire ordeal, and some of the shots showcased in the trailer look smart and unique. While I’m not overly excited for the film just yet, it’s a great first impression that will hopefully gain some great marketing before heading into theaters in just three short months.

Savages hits theaters on July 6th, starring Kitsch, Johnson, Hayek, Del Toro, Blake Lively, John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Demian Bichir, Joel David Moore, Emile Hirsch.
