In news that is shocking to absolutely no one, FX has ordered American Horror Story Season 7, renewing the anthology series for yet another installment. This comes as the show, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, is in the midst of its most secretive season since its inaugural installment, with no casting, plot, or even title information for Season 6 revealed ahead of its premiere last month. We finally learned that this season is titled American Horror Story: Roanoke, and is set up like one of those A&E ghost docuseries with Andre Holland, Lily Rabe, and Adina Porter performing talking head interviews while Cuba Gooding Jr., Sarah Paulson, and Angela Bassett star in “dramatic reenactment” portions. However, Murphy has already teased a shocking twist coming in Episode 6 that threatens to upend this season even more.

American Horror Story has been one of the cornerstones of the resurgence of FX has a worthy competitor to prestige channels like HBO and AMC. The series debuted in 2011, with Murphy and Co. not revealing that it was an anthology series until after the season finale. Since then, each season resets with a new cast, plot, and setting, and it looks like Murphy and Falchuk are nowhere near running out of ideas.

Indeed, Murphy recently told EW that he’s even working on a season more secretive than Roanoke:

“It’s my secret season. I’ve been working with a writer on a season that only he and I know. It’s like a two-year project that we’ll continue to work on the sly and not tell anybody. I don’t know when it will [air] but it’s also an experiment. It’s a different way of doing it. It’s one person writing all episodes. I don’t know if it’s going to work but it’s like, well, let’s try that. We might get them done and shoot them on the sly and drop it.”
