The #bodypositivity dilemma. All the rage, include bigger bodies!! No fat shaming! We all pretty!! Yes, absolutely. This goes with the not commenting on anyone’s health from what you can just see in a photo, or walking down the street of course, but we’re in the internet now. Fat people are not also by default: unhealthy, lazy, compulsive eaters, out of control, sick, the lone possesors of waky bloodwork, stupid, funny, outgoing (yes, these rainbow colored attributes can be offensive stereotypes too). But didn’t we write BODY & POSITIVITY? Yup, we did. So why are fat stereotypes attacked for being #bopo? What’s the difference between body positivity and #bodyacceptance? To me, no diff at all. If I’m being positive about my body does it mean I hate other bodies? If I accept my body doesn’t it mean I am feeling positive about it? Did I say fat-positive? Matter of fact I’ve received more positive feedback from “average-sized” people who have or had the same experiences I had. Skinny (* I’m testing someone’s patience here) people are not by default: healthier, happier, in control… Or out of it, too skinny, sick, have eating disorders… You get the gist π My body positive positivity means not judging, not hating, promoting health and self love, mental health having the same weight (oops π) as physical health, support, awareness, being kind to oneself and to others.
